Flooding has become a major issue in the Bloomingdale and LeDroit Park neighborhoods of Washington, DC.
In order to prevent flooding, DC Water commissioned construction to convert the existing tanks to temporary stormwater holding tanks and green infrastructure bioretention basins under the historic McMillan Sand Filtration Plant. These tanks and bioretention basins will divert approximately 4.5 million gallons of stormwater from reaching the affected areas.
Bryant provided construction management services for this design-build project as part of the BOC-JV under CM4D. The project involved the development of two new diversion structures on 60” and 72” sewers on North Capitol Street NW and First Street NW in the vicinity of Michigan Avenue NW. Bryant was also involved in the construction of 14-green infrastructure bioretention basins along Irving Street NW. The area is a heavy commuter route with a hospital complex in the area.
