In order to enhance the current runway and provide additional safety measures, Runway 33L at the Boston-Logan International Airport underwent renovations to extend the Runway Safety Area (RSA).
This $59.6 million design-build project incorporated a 600-foot long and 300-foot wide RSA with Engineered Material Arresting System on a pile supported deck. The RSA provides an overrun and undershoot protection consistent with design criteria in the FAA’s Airport Design Advisory Circular (Advisory Circular 150/5300-13, Airport Design, Current Edition).
Bryant provided survey services on this project, including confirmation of Massachusetts Port Authority’s existing conditions survey and survey support during construction. Bryant also performed total station and GPS surveys to supplement existing conditions plans for the Designers.
