Sheppard Square Housing Complex, built in 1943, underwent a $101 million redevelopment. The project marks the third HOPE VI revitalization project in Louisville and received $22 million in Federal Grant Funds from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The complex covers a land area consisting of approximately 20 acres and 8,215 feet of streets and alleys. It was demolished and rebuilt, including new infrastructure (roads, sewers, etc.) and includes a mix of 255 new market rate apartments and houses set aside for low-income families.
BA Engineers provided site/civil engineering services including site work, storm water and drainage and roadway design for all eight phases of this project.
The new parking lots were designed with permeable pavers with subsurface stormwater detention or concrete with bio-swales to capture stormwater.
